Research / Writing

Alongside my artistic practice, I am currently working in musicology and related fields including film music, film theory, sound studies, and video game studies.

My current research focuses on music and sound in Japanese cinema of the 1960s, with particular attention to Tōru Takemitsu and his collaborations with director Hiroshi Teshigahara and writer Abe Kōbō. I am especially interested in the ways sound, music, silence, noise, and texture interact in postwar Japanese cinema.

I am also developing a platform for less academic writing on music, cinema, video games, sound, and contemporary culture.
